Everything you need to know about ABA therapy at Active Care Center.
Answers to the questions Burnsville-area families ask most — from how to get started and what insurance we accept to how sessions work and who delivers the therapy.
Getting started
What to expect from your first call to your child's first session at our Burnsville clinic.
How do I get started with Active Care Center?
Reach out by phone, email, or our online contact form. We'll schedule a free 15-minute consultation, walk you through the intake process, and verify your insurance benefits before any services begin.
Do you offer a free consultation?
Yes. Every family begins with a complimentary 15-minute consultation. It's a no-pressure conversation where we learn about your child, answer questions about ABA therapy, and help you decide whether Active Care Center is the right fit.
What happens during the intake assessment?
A Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) meets with you and your child to gather a developmental history, observe play and communication, and identify priority skill areas. The assessment usually takes 1–2 sessions and forms the foundation of your child's individualized treatment plan.
How quickly can we get started?
Most Burnsville-area families complete intake and begin services within two to four weeks of their first inquiry. Timing depends on insurance authorization, scheduling, and BCBA assessment availability — our team works to make the process as fast and smooth as possible.
About ABA therapy
Applied Behavior Analysis, evidence base, and how we deliver care.
What is ABA therapy?
Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is an evidence-based therapy that uses positive reinforcement to teach communication, social, daily living, and learning skills. It's the most extensively researched therapy for children on the autism spectrum and other developmental delays.
Is ABA therapy right for my child?
ABA can benefit children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and other developmental needs at almost any age. Our BCBAs determine fit through the intake assessment — reviewing your child's history, current skills, and family goals before recommending a personalized plan.
What ages do you work with?
We serve children, adolescents, and teens — typically 18 months through 18 years old. Early intervention (under age 6) is a core focus because of the rapid brain development at that age, but it's never too late to start ABA therapy.
How many hours per week of ABA does my child need?
Recommended hours vary by age, goals, and clinical need — anywhere from a few hours per week for focused intervention to 30+ hours per week for comprehensive early-intervention programs. Your BCBA will recommend a schedule during the assessment and adjust as your child progresses.
Who delivers the therapy?
Every program is designed and supervised by a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA). Day-to-day sessions are delivered by Registered Behavior Technicians (RBTs) and Behavior Technicians who complete rigorous initial training and ongoing competency reviews.
Insurance & cost
Coverage, payment, and how we handle the paperwork on your behalf.
Do you accept insurance?
Yes. Active Care Center is in-network with most major Minnesota insurance plans, including Blue Cross Blue Shield of MN, HealthPartners, Medica, UCare, PreferredOne, and Minnesota Medical Assistance (MA/Medicaid).
Do you accept Minnesota Medical Assistance (Medicaid)?
Yes. We are a Medicaid-enrolled ABA therapy provider and accept Minnesota Medical Assistance, including MA-funded waiver programs. Our intake team will verify your coverage and explain any cost-share before services begin.
What if my insurance doesn't cover ABA therapy?
If your plan doesn't cover ABA, we'll explain your options — including private-pay rates and Minnesota state funding programs that may apply. We never want cost alone to keep a family from accessing care.
Will my insurance cover the intake assessment?
In most cases, yes. We obtain prior authorization for the assessment before scheduling and let you know your specific benefits, copay, and deductible responsibility ahead of time so there are no surprises.
Our clinic & sessions
Where we're located, what sessions look like, and how families stay connected.
Where is your clinic located?
Active Care Center is located at 13001 County Rd 5, Burnsville, MN 55337. We serve families across the south metro Twin Cities, including Burnsville, Lakeville, Apple Valley, Eagan, Savage, and Bloomington.
Are sessions in-clinic, at home, or at school?
We primarily deliver ABA therapy from our welcoming, sensory-friendly clinic in Burnsville. We also coordinate with schools through our School Consults service and offer Parent Training so progress carries into the home environment.
How long is a typical session?
Session length varies by program. 1:1 ABA sessions typically run 2–4 hours; social groups and skill-building sessions are usually 60–90 minutes. Your BCBA will recommend a schedule that fits your child's needs and your family's life.
How will I know how my child is progressing?
Parents receive regular updates: written session notes, scheduled BCBA progress reviews, and ongoing data on the goals in your child's treatment plan. We adjust the plan together based on what's working and what your family needs next.
